Sir Grange Zoysia

The number 1 selling Zoysia grass

Sir Grange Zoysia has a great tolerance for shade once established and requires very little water and nutrients. It is extremely climate-adaptable and has a remarkable wear tolerance once fully established. Sir Grange is a very practical lawn that looks fantastic in any backyard. The grass is a flexible, fine-bladed leaf that resists wear and drought. This makes it the ideal fit for your grass at home and the climate in Australia. The premium turf species Sir Grange can tolerate a lot of shade and uses minimal water. As a result, it grows more slowly and requires less maintenance.

When completely established, Sir Grange will use a lot less water, fertiliser, and mowing than most kinds. Sir Grange will become incredibly shade and drought tolerant once it has a root system of 200mm or more.

Please be aware that depending on the climate, installing Sir Grange in certain areas is not recommended between May and September. Please contact Direct Turf to discuss installing Sir Grange in your area.

Frequently Asked Questions – Sir Grange Zoysia Turf

Sir Grange Zoysia is a premium, fine-bladed turf variety known for its lush dark green appearance, soft texture, and exceptional durability. Originally developed for the golf industry, it has become a popular choice for residential lawns due to its low maintenance requirements and adaptability to various climates.

  • Low Maintenance: Requires up to 50% less mowing and 75% less nitrogen fertiliser compared to other common turf varieties.
  • Drought Tolerant: Once established, it has high drought tolerance, making it suitable for areas with water restrictions.
  • Shade Tolerant: Performs well in areas with as little as 3 hours of direct sunlight per day.
  • Wear Tolerant: Exhibits excellent self-repairing capabilities, making it ideal for high-traffic areas.
  • Pest and Weed Resistant: Dense growth habit helps inhibit weeds, and it shows resistance to common pests.

  • Soil Preparation: Lay on a bed of 100–200 mm of quality organic turf underlay.
  • Immediate Installation: Install the turf immediately after delivery to prevent drying out or overheating.
  • Watering: Soak the newly laid turf thoroughly for at least 45 minutes to 1 hour each day for the first 4–5 weeks.
  • Rolling: Roll the turf to improve contact with the soil.

During establishment, water daily to support root growth. Once established, water only when needed — ideally when the grass shows signs of stress like curling leaves. Deep watering is more effective than frequent shallow watering.

This grass grows slowly, so mowing is typically needed every 2–4 weeks during the growing season. Maintain it at a height of 18 mm to 40 mm depending on your preference.

Sir Grange requires significantly less fertiliser than other turf types. Apply a slow-release fertiliser at a rate of 10g/m² between early spring and mid to late summer if needed. Avoid fertilising in autumn; instead, use liquid iron or micronutrients to enhance colour without promoting excessive growth.

Yes, Sir Grange performs well in shaded conditions, requiring only about 3 hours of direct sunlight per day. However, during the establishment period, ensure that shaded areas receive adequate light and reduce foot traffic to promote healthy growth.

Sir Grange has a high tolerance for foot traffic and wear, with excellent self-repairing capability once the root zone is established to a depth of 200 mm.

Thanks to its dense and low-growing nature, this variety naturally resists many common weeds and pests without needing much intervention.

Yes, it comes with a 10-year warranty through Lawn Solutions Australia, guaranteeing a product free of weeds, pests, and disease at the time of delivery.
